If Hare's position is right, his work has achieved three remarkable results: it has vindicated consequentialism as an ethical theory; it has reconciled consequentialism and Kant's method of moral reasoning (not, of course, Kant's actual moral views); and it has shown that reason has a substantial role to play in ethics.
